Congrats and welcome to the world of Macs. I’m happy you’ve left the dark ages of PCs and Windows…haha (I kid).
Cool Mac tips in general? Too many to mention and I don’t know where to start from. But what kind of Mac did you get? That will determine a lot of the tips. Off the top of my head, I know that right clicking is an issue for people switching from PCs to Macs. You can edit all that in your preferences. Go to System Preferences > Trackpad to make the changes you want. It has visuals too so you can see illustrations of what each preference will look like.
The Command (Cmd) key is a huge staple feature. It gets combined with a ton of keys. Cmd + Q quits applications, Cmd + W closes windows. Let me explain the difference. Say you have 2 docs open in Word. Cmd + W will close either or both of the docs but won’t close Word. Cmd + Q will close both docs AND quit the application. That took some time for me to get used to because I was so used to Window’s red box in the upper-right.

I notice that my law school compatriots that have Macs are all almost like a cult. They are so hardcore and always trying to convert us old fogie PC users. I just refuse to cave in to their hip advertising, but I hope you enjoy it. I hear Windows 7 is somewhat Mac-ish in nature and that’s as close as I’ll come.
I never wanted a Mac until my computer crashed for the second time in law school. I had a Dell, and maybe it was just a bad computer but I didn’t want to take the chance it would happen again. Macs are reliable and have excellent service if something goes wrong.
I seriously hate that “I am a Mac” now. 😦
Keep a folder for each class. I like to keep my outlines in regular microsoft mode but type my notes in Notebook Layout view (look at bottom left corner for different views) this way I can tab my notes by chapter or sections or whatever. And if you gChat, just use the iChat to do so now, I find it easier. Tutorials on the Apple website are great too.
